Christmas light decorating challenge benefitting HANK’s local foster kids

Vibrant and colorful, or twinkling warm-white….There’s few things more beautiful than hundreds of Christmas lights aglow, or the light in a child’s eyes on Christmas morning. We are excited to announce a Christmas Light Decorating competition in Devine and Natalia this year. The event will be held in honor of the late Pat and Kitty DuBose, who loved this most wonderful time of the year. In the true spirit of Christmas, the Christmas Light Challenge will also be a fundraiser to benefit one of the best charities in Medina County—HANK, Inc. Every year, HANK Inc. buys gifts for over 200 local foster children in (Medina, Real and Uvalde Counties), and also has a party for them. They also fund two group homes for foster children in Devine and Hondo.
Folks with Homes and Businesses inside the City Limits of Devine or Natalia can enter the Christmas Light competition by sending us your name, address, contact info, and a small donation to HANK, Inc. (to buy gifts for local foster children). Any donation, big or small, will be accepted as your entry fee. This Christmas Light Challenge for a great cause.
“You can donate $5 or $500…Anybody who fills out the entry form and sends it in with a donation to HANK will be entered in the Christmas Light competition.”
There will be lots of trophies and prizes.
Let the beautiful Christmas Lights hanging from our homes and trees remind us of the night baby Jesus was born, the light and the life of the world. We will be awarding the Silent Night Award for one of the beautiful nativity displays in our community.
The DEADLINE TO ENTER will December 12. Homes will be judged on the nights of December 12-13th, so please make sure your lights are on in order for the judges to see your display.
Look for an entry form inside, and call The Devine News at 830-665-2211 with any questions. Entry forms and your “entry fee” donation to HANK, Inc. may be mailed to The Devine News at PO Box 508, Devine, TX 78016 (make checks payable to HANK, Inc.).
If you live outside city limits, you are welcome to join the fun, but only homes and businesses inside the city limits will be judged.
Everyone is welcome to enter and participate in helping awareness and donating to this great cause; however, only entries in city limits of Devine and Natalia will be judged and eligible to receive the prize money.

About the memorial…
Pat and Kitty DuBose worked side by side as the editor and publisher of The Devine News for many years. They dedicated their lives to helping others when disaster struck, recognizing citizens for accomplishments and good deeds, reporting on important news, promoting local businesses, as well as our city and schools with a mission to make our community a better place.
Orphaned at birth, Kitty DuBose was always amazed at the huge DuBose family that grew and grew. Both her and Pat loved Christmas, and had large gatherings with family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. From Grandpa’s “Christmas Gardens” with fake snow, a village of colorful houses, and mountains with trains running through them to Grandma’s immaculate Christmas dinners-they truly appreciated the Christmas spirit and made Christmas extra special for everyone around them.
They also enjoyed driving around town to see the colorful lights on a cold December night, drinking hot cocoa and singing Christmas carols.
So help us celebrate the most wonderful time of the year by lighting up Devine for all of the families to see and enjoy, and help us to bring a smile and a light in the eyes of the many Medina County foster children. Let’s make this Christmas extra special!
