Book reviews top Current Events Club meeting

Hostesses and guest speaker for the February Current Events Club meeting are: Martha Wall, Beverley Crain, Dinah Argo, Barbara Moore, and Cherri Budington.

Book reviews by Barbara Moore opened the meeting of the Current Events Club in the home of Dinah Argo on February 12th. Barbara first discussed The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah in which a desperate family seeks a new beginning in the near isolated wilderness of Alaska. The second book reviewed was Between Shades of Gray by Ruth Sepetys. The book follows fifteen year old Lina in 1941 as Soviet secret police deport her and family to Siberia. Barbara also distributed information about obtaining audiobooks and ebooks through the Driscoll Public Library website.
Club members discussed the annual theater outing to the Public Theater of San Antonio to see The Million Dollar Quartet on March 24th.
The Ice Cream Social honoring Devine High School seniors will be held on April 8th in the home of Martha and George Wall.
Plans for the Denim to Diamonds Charity Gala were discussed. The event on Saturday, February 16th will raise funds to be donated to local charities.
The club voted to donate $300 to the Driscoll Public Library and $300 to the Devine High School FCCLA to be used for their state competition.
After the business meeting, club members assembled Valentine gift bags to be given to the residents of the Devine Health and Rehabilitation Center.
