Last Fridays match up with Pearsall didn’t come out as hoped, but the Devine Arabian softball team fought hard and came up short of the win with Pearsall taking the district title game 3-0. The Arabians finished district with an overall record of 6-2, both losses were to Pearsall.
All three of Pearsall’s scoring runs came in during the fifth inning, two of them home runs one which brought in a runner on base.
Devine got plenty of Arabians on the bases with nice hits, and loaded the bases several times but Pearsall managed to stop them right in time. Even in the 7th inning the bases were loaded one last time for the Arabians and they were so close, but just couldn’t get in for the score in time before the third out. They never gave up, it fought the whole way.
“Friday was a tough loss although we had our chances late in the game to pull out a victory, mistakes sealed our fate. All we can do is to move on and prepare for the first round of the playoffs,” said Coach Mark Mangold. ” Somerset is a good team and again we will have to play well. We have been working in the cages and on the field and from what has happened out there we should play with confidence. ”
(The Arabians will have played their Bi-District game against Somerset on press night, Tuesday, April 25. The winner will advance to Area which will has to be played by May 6.)
