The Devine Arabian track team captured another championship at their regular season finale last Wednesday at Warhorse Stadium. Devine scored 224 points to beat our runner-up Pleasanton by 25 points.
The Arabians have had an outstanding 2021 season and look to continue that awesome roll Tuesday and Wednesday at the District Track Meet. The 3200m Run begins at 10:00am Tuesday with other preliminary running events kicking off at 11:30am.
Gold medalists were Kaylee Romano, Neenah Guerrero, Brianna Bowyer, Bailey Oropeza, Avery Cruz, Megan Runyan, Kristina Moralez, Mackenzie Schneider, Rylee Esquibel, Mckyenzie Flores, and Analea Brooks.
Cruz, Bowyer, Moralez, and Guerrero also won silver medals along with Kennedy Duncan and Brooke Schott.
Bronze medals went to Oropeza and Khali Key.
Vaulting to new heights
Brianna “Lil Bri” Bowyer continues her amazing senior year but reaching new heights in pole vault. With limited time in track and field this year due to a good playoff-run by the Arabian basketball team, Bri has both tied and set school records…and her season is not close to being complete with district this week and regional just around the corner.
Head Coach Lon Cozby loves kids that love track so he definitely loves Bri, as does every other coach that has been blessed to work with such a talented and hard worker.
Bri accepts nothing less of 100% from herself regardless the sport or activity in which she is competing.
“In the past two weeks Bri has tied the school record (9’6”), tied it, broke it (9’“9), then broke it again (10-0) this past week!!! Bri is a great competitor,” Cozby stated. “She really took her senior year seriously and set out goals that may have been impossible to some, but not her. She told us last year she wanted to go to state in XC, set a personal best in the mile, and set the school record in PV. She has already taken care of all those. In addition, she has a great relationship with her position coach, Coach Thompson. Both Coach Thompson and I are extremely proud of what Bri has done thus far. I am anxious for District and beyond and see her continued progress. And, success breeds success. Bri has pushed the boys to new heights and they all feed off each other. Coach Thompson has a great Pole Vault crew!”
Best of luck to Bri and the rest of the Arabian track team in district and beyond!
