Arabians move on to Regional Quarterfinals

After beating Robstown 2-0 over the weekend, Devine is moving on to face Tuloso-Midway Thursday in Devine and in Tuloso-Midway on Friday. Tuloso-Midway was second their district and beat Pleasanton and Uvalde to move to the regional quarterfinals.
“I am really proud of our girls and the way they competed against Robstown this past weekend. We scored 29 runs, while putting together 23 hits, 17 BB’s, 27 RBI’s, and 5 HR’s. #11 Hilary Barnett and #44 Mackenzie McClellan both did a great job in the circle. The strike zone was pretty tight so I was really proud of how they kept their composure. They both combined for 4 of our 5 HR’s. Hilary Barnett hit a walk off grand slam to close out game 1 of the series. Megan Runyan had one solo HR. Her first of the season.#10 Arieana Ramirez went 5 for 9 w/ 3 RBI’s, #00 Allyson Taylor went 2 for 4 w/ 3 RBI’s, and Freshman #19 Kelsey Dishman went 1 for 4 w/ 4 walks, and 2 RBI’s,” said Coach Juan Gonzalez

In their first game against Robstown, the Cotton Pickers earned 2 runs in the first inning and Devine answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Jeanette Rios reached first on an error after a ground ball. Isellia Gutierrez walked, 1 out, Mackenzie McClellan was hit by a pitch, J. Rios was picked off at 3rd, 2 outs. Megan Runyan walked. Allyson Taylor walked and forced in Gutierrez, 1-2. MacKenzie Schneider walked and forced in McClellan, 2-2. Kelsey Dishman walked, and Runyan scored, 3-2. Hilary Barnett walked, Brooklyn Miller (in for Taylor) scored, 4-2.
Bottom of the 2nd, 1 out, Arieana Ramirez singles, McClellan doubles and Ramirez scores, 5-2. With 2 outs, Taylor singles and McClellan added another run to the score, 6-2. Bottom of the 3rd, Dishman doubles, and Barnett singles. 1 out, Gutierrez singles and Dishman scores, 7-2. Ramirez singles to left and Morris (in for Barnett) scores, 8-2. With runners on first and third, McClellan hits a home run to left and Devine leads 11-2.
Robstown added 2 runs in the top of the 4th. Bottom of the 5th, McClellan has another home run, 12-4. Runyan singles, Taylor walks, Schneider walked to load the bases. Dishman walked and forced home Runyan. Barnett hit a grand slam and Devine won 17-4!
Taylor 2 singles, 2 RBI, 1 run. Miller 1 run. Schneider1 RBI, 1 run. Morris 1 run. Ramirez 1 singles, 1 RBI, 2 runs. Barnett 1 single, 1 home run, 5 RBI, 1 run. Gutierrez 1 single, 1 RBI, 2 runs. Dishman 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 runs. Runyan 1 single, 2 runs. McClellan1 double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 4 runs. Barnett threw 38 strikes in 76 pitches and McClellan had 11 strikes in 20 pitches.
Saturday morning in Jourdanton, the Arabians opened the game with 2 runs in the first and finished the game 12-7 to advance to the next round. J. Rios walked after four straight balls. 1 out, Ramirez doubled and Angelina Rios in for J. Rios scored, 1-0. McClellan at bat, Ramirez scored on a wild pitch, 2-0. Top of the 2nd, Schneider singles, Dishman walked, and Barnett reaches base on error. Schneider scored. A. Rios doubled and Dishman scored, 4-0. Gutierrez walked, Ramirez singled and Barnett scored. 1 out, Runyan walked and A. Rios scored. Taylor walked and Gutierrez scored, 7-0.

Top of the 4th, Ramirez doubles, 1 out, Runyan hit a home run to left, 9-0! Robstown scored and added 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Top of the 5th, Dishman walked, Barnett hit another home run, 11-2. A. Rios was hit by a pitch, 2 outs, McClellan singles, Runyan doubles and A. Rios scored, 12-2. Robstown’s bats got hot late in the game but it was too late and Devine won 12-7.

Dishman 2 runs. Runyan 1 double, 1 home run 4 RBI, 1 run. McClellan 1 single with 38 strikes in 67 pitches. Barnett had 32 strikes in 45 pitches.
“We had a few errors defensively, but our leadership and experience plays a huge role and we can take a time out, re-focus, and get out of messy innings. We are going back to work and are going to prepare and focus on Tuloso-Midway next,” said Coach Gonzalez
