8th grade Fillys beat Pearsall

In their first win of the season, the 8th grade Gold Fillys beat Pearsall in 2 sets. With strong serving from Rebecca Mares, Sierra Brown, and Amayia Macias, the Fillys kept Pearsall moving and trying. The first set ended 25-14, but that did not mean the Gold Fillys let their guard down. They played their second set as strong and won 25-16. It was their much-improved serving and passing that enabled this victory over Pearsall. “Practices have been productive for this group. They have been working hard to improve and today it finally paid off.”- Coach Julie Oropeza
Rebecca Mares had 2 aces in 11 serves, Sierra Brown 7 serves, and Amayia Macias 1 ace in 5 serves. Andrea Rios, Autumn Owen, and Ray Ann Pike each had a hit. Jackie Schreck and Barbara controlled the court in the back row on defense. The season stands at 1-2 for the Gold Fillys.
Maroon Fillys
Facing Pearsall on September 17th, the 8th grade Maroon Fillys were off to a great start and won their first set 25-6. It was in their second set that the game did not go their way and they lost 13-25. “The Fillys had to tighten up and overcome a small slump” to win their third set 25-14, said Coach Julie Oropeza.
“The Maroon team played well. We had contribution from everybody and that made it a great team win. I am proud of this group for all of their hard work.”-Coach Oropeza
Nina Guerrero 16 points on serves. Amber DuBose 15 points on serves and 4 assists. Kristina Morales 7 points on serves with 2 assists. Cameron Hutton 3 blocks and 3 hits. Bailey Oropeza had 5 aces, 1 assist, 4 hits, and 2 kills. Zoe Gonzales had 4 hits with 2 kills. Kaitlin Morales had 2 hits and 2 kills. Korynn Arche had 4 hits. The Maroon Fillys currently have a 3-0 record.
