8th Grade Colts beat Pearsall

#30 Jonathan Weinkam making the tackle.

The 8th Grade Colts played an aggressive game against Pearsall last Thursday. With only one team to play, the Colts made sure to make every drive count. Tomorrow night, the Colts will play in one game against Poteet. Before the weather hit, the 8th grade was able to get in the first half against Pearsall. As clouds rolled in the 8th grade was able to put up 28 points in a game called at halftime.
The Colts took the opening kickoff and put together a quick 5 play drive capped off with a 9 yard touchdown run by Ethan Santos. Jonathan Weinkam was stopped short on the 2pt but the colts took an early 6-0 lead.
Our Defense played outstanding, Pearsall’s offense was tricky and you have to play very disciplined on the D side. The kids listened in practice and had great patience with reads and played very aggressive.
After an Aaron Bonilla fumble recovery, Sammy Guardiola connected with Ethan Santos for a 51 yard touchdown pass. Adrian Gutierrez was kept out on the 2 point run but still the colts lead was 12-0.
On the next possession Sammy took to the air again and found Derrick Razo in the back of the end zone for a17 yard TD strike. He then found Gabe Esquibel who out jumped the defender for the 2 point. The Colts lead now grew to 20-0 in the 1st quarter.
The next touchdown came on a reverse as Weinkam took the handoff and pitched it to Luciano Rodriguez who out ran everybody on the field for a 37 yard TD. Sammy would find Gabe in the end zone once more to finish out the scoring and take the lead to the half, 28-0.
The kids were playing great when the game was called. We were ready to start switching kids in and continue moving the ball on offense. We also had kids ready to go in on defense and try to preserve the shutout. Unfortunately you can’t control the weather. The safety of everyone involved is always the main concern.
