The 7th Grade Lady Pirates opened their season against Dilley on November 18th and with a couple weeks of practice under their belt, the young players were ready. They took down the Wolves 34-6. There is a lot to look forward to from these players for the next several years.
“If the ladies play how they practiced the Dilley team shouldn’t cause them much difficulty. I have been blessed to be surrounded by great coaches who have taught me a great deal. Coach Bippert’s goal for coaching any sport is to make the other team have to adjust to what you are doing. We used Coach Cross’s bunch inbounds play to have Lilly Evans score six of the nine points in the first quarter and the Dilley team had to change the position of their girls on the inbounds,” said Coach Jackie Bohl.
Playing hard and fast, the Pirates took shots from all over the court and sank two 3-pointers. The only area they struggled in was free throws but those will come with practice. Aliana Cardenas had 13 points including a 3-pointer. Lillian Evans 12 points and strong defense. Cayleigh Smith 7 points with a 3-pointer. Mari Guerrero 2 points. Camilla Vega is becoming the team’s leader with help from Sara Morquecho, Natalia Bazaldura and Brooke Tollett off the bench.
