7th Grade Fillys play season opener against Crystal City

The 7th Grade Gold team started a new season on September 5th in Crystal City. The Fillys split the two game match with the Mustangs winning the first game 24-13 and losing the second by a score of 17-18. It was a great opening game for the Fillys. Strong serving was a key to the success the Fillys had. Kourtni Geyer had 10 successful serves including 2 aces, Damara Lezama had 2 aces in 4 serves, and Kyra Olson had 4 successful serves with 2 aces.
“This is a very hard working group of girls that we expect to grow into a very strong team. I was pleased with their efforts in this game,” said Coach Julie Oropeza.
7th Grade Maroon
Traveling to Crystal City, on September 5th, for their first game of the season, the 7th Grade Maroon Fillys were ready to win as soon as they stepped off the bus. They beat the Mustangs quickly in two sets. The Fillys worked hard in practice on their serves and passes which was the key to this victory.
Skylar Blanton served 8 successful serves with 2 aces, Maddie DuBose 5 serves, and Abigail Saunders 4 serves with 1 ace.
“This group of girls is very talented, and they learn very quickly. I know they will continue to be successful as they grow as volleyball players. The expectations are extremely high for this group,” said Coach Oropeza.
