7th Grade Maroon
Hondo was able to out serve and out play the Fillys on September 9th.The Owls were able to win the first set 12-25, but in the second set, the Fillys “showed a little spark and kept the game close. The Fillys fought and fought but still came up short losing 17-25. We will go back to work tomorrow morning, where I expect the girls to respond well with a very determined attitude,” said Coach Oropeza.
Skylar Blanton 4 hits, 2 kills, 5 serves. Maddie DuBose 2 hits, 1 kill, 2 aces. Charlee Rangel 3 digs. Oakley Malone 2 assists. Airyanna Rodriguez 1 assist. Katie Rios 5 serves.
The Maroon Fillys head to Carrizo Springs and then play at home on September 30th against Poteet.
7th Grade Gold
The 7th Grade Gold Fillys had an impressive night of serving behind Damara Lezama’s arm. She served 17 successful serves in the team’s first set win against Hondo at 25-10. Kourtni Geyer and Krya Olson also had impressive serving in the first set.
“In the second game, Hondo’s serving became problematic for the Fillys and Hondo was able to win the game causing yet another split game result. This group still has something to prove. We have played two full games now, and haven’t come out completely successful yet. Ties are extremely frustrating,” stated Coach Oropeza.
The Gold Fillys will face Carrizo Springs and hopefully win both games on September 23rd.
