Xavier Garza paces Warhorse XC in Corpus

Devine Warhorse Cross Country runner Xavier Garza led all Warhorses in last Saturday’s Islander Splash Invitational on the campus of TAMU of Corpus Christi. Xavier placed 17th in a field of 358 competitors, posting a time of 18:39. Devine placed 12th overall in the 41-team field.
Dugan Stadium is the site for next month’s Region IV Cross Country championships. Having the opportunity to run this course prior to Regional and to finish as high in the standings as Xavier did should provide him a lot of hope in his desire to make it to the State Meet in November.
Fellow Warhorse Chris Ortiz had a nice race as well, finishing 50th with a time of 19:22 while freshman Rylan Mata came in 113th with a 20:39. Zachary Alvarez (125th-20:55), Michael Reichel (21:15), Marcus Angel Espinosa (178th-21:52), TJ Mendoza (181st-21:54), and Matthew Madrid (207th-22:11) rounded out the Warhorse places and times.
