Werner F. Stinson

Werner F. Stinson, 85, passed away suddenly on March 5, 2019 on his farm outside of Castroville, Texas. Werner was born July 23, 1933 to Alma Wurzbach and Felix Stinson. He grew up farming with his dad. Werner was confirmed in the Castroville Lutheran Church. He graduated from La Coste High School in 1952 and served his country in the U.S. Army. After the Army, Werner began his career as a farmer, rancher and entrepreneur in the gravel business. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He married Shirley Williams in 1954 and to that union they had two children, Mark Stinson and Sondra Stinson Strietelmeier. Werner married Lynda Edlund on June 21, 1980, and expanded his loving family with Eric, Dana and Dean Edlund.
Werner and Lynda were members of the First Baptist Church of Castroville. He enjoyed visiting with friends, telling stories, and sharing good food.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Alma Stinson and son, Mark Stinson. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Lynda Stinson; children, Sondra Strietelmeier (Fred), Eric Edlund (Polly), Dana Edlund, Dean Edlund; daughter-in-law, Trish Herzik; grandchildren, Zachary Strietelmeier, Jacob Edlund, Wesley Edlund, Alex Contreras and Laura Rivera; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March12, 2019 starting at 4:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Castroville. Private Interment will follow at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Werner’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Castroville or the charity of your choice.
