Warhorses blank Owls to begin season

The Varsity Warhorses traveled to Hondo to begin the baseball season last Tuesday, Feb. 21, and came away with a win, knocking off their longtime rivals 3-0.
Dillon Ricord jumpstarted the Devine offense in the top of the 3rd inning, leading off with a double and advancing to third base thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Newt Crouch. Jack Zimmerle’s groundout to second gave Ricord the opportunity to score and put Devine up 1-0.
The Warhorses put another run on the board in the top of the 4th inning. Matt Ornelas started the inning by drawing a walk, and advanced to second base on Isaac Solis’s sacrifice bunt. Ornelas took third on a passed ball, then scored on another one for a 2-0 lead.
The last run of the game came in the top of the 5th inning. Ricord reached on an error, and Zimmerle and Richie Long drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Solis drew a walk later in the inning to force Ricord in to put the Warhorses up 3-0.
