Warhorses beat Stockdale; champions of Marion Tournament

The Warhorses started their week off with a win over Stockdale and ended it the champions of the Marion Varsity Tournament. Coach P.J. Wells is “very proud of the kids efforts overall throughout the tournament. They figured out some key points in being totally effective throughout the tournament.”
Dalton Kramer was named to the All Tournament team and Justin Contreras was named Tournament MVP!
Tuesday against Stockdale, the Warhorses started the game down 11-13 but outscored them 18-9 in the second to take the lead. They would win it 59-39.

Opening the tournament against Canyon Lake, the Warhorses were tied at 20 at the half. They outscored them 25-9 in the second half for their first win of the tournament. Pompa 11, Kramer 2, Jose Dozel 3, Burford 5, Adams 12, Contreras 6, Perez 6. Q1 12-8, Q2 20-20, Q3 32-24, Q4 45-29. FTP 45%
San Antonio Christian was next to fall to the Warhorses. This was a much close game coming down to very end when Devine won 39-38. Devine was down 26-27 at the end of the third and had to work hard to win it. Pompa 3, Kramer 7, Burford 8, Adams 6, Contreras 15. Q1 9-11, Q2 17-22, Q3 26-27, Q4 39-38. FTP 79%
Another close game against Blanco made the Warhorses prove they were the stronger team. Down 24-31 at the half, they were able to push more aggressively on offense for the win. Kramer 5, Sergio Martinez 5, Burford 5, Madrid 3, Adams 9, Contreras 26, Perez 2.
In their final game against Somerset, Devine took control and never looked back. Coach Wells and his team beat the Bulldogs 51-42 and took the well earned championship trophy back to Devine on Saturday. Pompa 8, Kramer 10, Martinez 2, Burford 2, Madrid 4, Adams 6, Contreras 19. Q1 12-4, Q2 24-15. Q3 35-30, Q4 51-42. FTP 82%
The Warhorses will host their annual Devine Shoot Out this weekend and will play at 1:30 Thursday against Dilley, 9:00 Friday against Floresville and 3:00 Friday against Brooks Academy.
