Devine’s golf team secured a 2nd place finish in their first tournament of the year last Friday and Saturday over in Pleasanton. Uvalde finished in 1st place with a two-day score of 682. Devine’s 702 score was just ahead of 3rd place San Antonio Steel’s 707.Junior Carson Tilley earned additional hardware as the 3rd place medalist. Carson shot a 75 on Friday and an 80 on Saturday to finish at 155. Clayton King of Uvalde had 73/72 for 145 as the 1st place medalist followed by 2nd place medalist Trevor Bailey of Steele who shot 79/74 for 153.
“I was impressed with our second day scores the most. Four of the five players were in their first tournament of the season and two were in their first tournament ever,” said chauffeur and assistant Coach Jerel Beaty. “Carson hit a couple of bumps during his rounds that he would like to have again. He is an intelligent, talented, and competitive player who can work through his game to continue to improve. Brice had two solid outings back to back; he should be really confident in his game. Noah admittedly struggled the first day but had the mental toughness to bounce back and use that round as motivation to play better the second day, which he did. Brandon and Payton settled down the second day to shoot much better rounds. Brandon shaved 13 strokes off of his second-day score while Payton took 18 strokes off of his.”
Other individual totals: Brice Champion 81/85-166, Noah Tumbarello 103/85-188, Brandon Flues 103/90-193, Payton Anderson 133/115-248.
The Warhorses will swing back into action on Friday, February 24 in Devine and will then travel to Boerne on Monday, February 27.
