Warhorse golf clinches District 29-4A championship

The Devine Warhorse golf team shot 706 to outdistance themselves from second place Carrizo Springs by eleven strokes to claim the District 29-4A championship for the second consecutive season. Senior Noah Tumbarello led the charge shooting an 80 the first day and an 87 the second day. His 167 two-day total was one better than third medalist Michael Uriegas of Carrizo Springs.
“I am proud of the way our guys competed for the most part,” stated Head Coach PJ Wells. “I know some of our guys are disappointed in their score, but we accomplished what we set out to accomplish and that was to win district.”
Team rankings: 1st-Devine (351/355=706), 2nd-Carrizo Springs (359/358=717), 3rd-Hondo (402/417=819), 4th-Crystal City (480/472=952), 5th-Devine 2 (553/528=1,081).
Individual top 8 and regional qualifiers: 1st/RQ1-Kaden English-Hondo (76/79=155), 2nd-Noah Tumbarello-Devine (80/87=167), 3rd-Michael Uriegas-Carrizo Springs (84/84=168), 4th-Brandon Flues (85/86=171), 5th-Brian Schaefer-Devine (85/90=175), 6th-David McDaniel-Carrizo Springs (87/89=176), 7th-Jay P John (89/89=178), 8th-Colby LaPorte (87/93=180).
Next up: Regional Tournament at Gabe Lozano Golf Course in Corpus Christi on April 22 and 23.
