Head Football Coach Paul Gomez will commence his first season as the Devine Warhorse lead man when two-a-days open August 7th at Dean Bates Memorial Practice Field. All incoming freshmen through senior football players are to be at the field house by 6:15am to receive their practice gear, cleats, and locker combination. Athletic physicals are to be submitted during this time as well. Practice will follow.
“Expectations are high once again,” stated Gomez. “We wouldn’t have it any other way. Our staff is excited about the upcoming season as are our players.”
The schedule for the first week is as follows:
Monday, August 7th and Wednesday, August 9th
7:30am—Stretch
8:00am-11:00am—Practice
11:00am-11:30am—Varsity/JV Lift
Lunch, then 1:00pm- 3:30
Tuesday, August 8th and Thursday, August 10th
7:30am-11:30am—Varsity/JV Lift Lunch
1:00pm-4:00pm—Practice
Friday, August 11th
8:30am- 11:40am
Body Maintenance and Yearly Physical a Must
All players should drink plenty of water prior to the beginning of practices. The temperature is going to be hot, but it is hot in every town in Texas. Hydrating and nourishing the body is not a coach’s responsibility; it is the responsibility of the parent and the player.
The trainer will have massive amounts of water available at each practice. Too often, the player arrives to practice already dehydrated from the day before. The color of a person’s urine should be slightly yellow. If it is too clear, it could mean that there are not enough nutrients in the body or the kidneys are not functioning properly. Dark yellow means dehydration.
If you are not a breakfast eater, too bad, eat breakfast. A body needs fuel to function properly.
Players not having a physical completed by the first day of practice are unacceptable. Physicals were obtainable at the school to all athletes this past May for only $10. Ten and a half weeks and over 70 days have passed since that time. Please be responsible and have your physical completed before August 7. Packets are available in the high school office or in the athletic field house during working hours.
