Two-a-days underway for volleyball and cross country

Cross Country -Early Tuesday morning, August 2 the Devine Cross Country runners started their official two a day practices at 6:30 a.m. as the sun was trying to wake up. Head Coach Khera Vay was excited about the numbers and the results she was seeing already on the first day “with lots of nice surprises”.
“Just as anticipated after much dedication over the summer the Warhorses and Arabians came out for the first couple of practices fired up and performed exceptionally well. This will be an awesome group with many veterans and many new faces, and we foresee this becoming a huge family. I asked the kids to “live the challenge” each and every day and they have done nothing short of that. I’ve never been more excited about two groups of athletes during two a days!”said Coach Vay.
They currently have 14 girls and 11 boys signed up to run with a good mix of returnees and new faces.
The season begins on August 19h (HS only) in Gonzales.
Volleyball – The Arabian coaches had 50 high school girls turn out for tryouts this year. When it comes to Devine Arabian Volleyball, they have had a full first week of team try-outs as well as a lot of scrimmage action to come.
On Tuesday, August 1st all 10th-12th graders worked out from 8:30-11:00 a.m. and all 9th graders from 10:30-1:00 p.m. Everyone will then came back for conditioning, and skill workouts from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
On Wednesday August 2nd and Thursday, August 3rd the schedule will be the exact same as Monday.
On Friday, scrimmage play begins at 9:00 am. at Medina Valley for Varsity and 9:45 Freshmen and Junior Varsity.
Followed by a day of scrimmages on Saturday, August 6th at McCollum for Varsity, Harlandale for JV and LaVernia High School for the Freshman team. All games start at 9:30 on Saturday for all 3 teams.
“We are excited about the season and looking forward to our scrimmages,” Devine Head Volleyball Coach Leigh Anne McIver said. “The girls have been working hard”.
Assisting Coach McIver will be Junior Varsity Coach Mark Mangold and new Freshman Coach Kim (Crouch) Lane. .
This year the Arabians are returning 8 varsity players, so the are looking for a very successful season again this year.
