Wanted man arrested in chase; large amount of drugs found

A press release from the Hondo Police Department details the arrest of a wanted man who was booked into Medina County jail after a foot chase in Hondo and authorities were also able to take a huge amount of drugs off the street, with an estimated street value over $8,000, according to the department.

According to the Press Release, “On January 16, 2020 shortly before 11pm, Hondo Police Patrol Officers observed a vehicle violate a traffic offense. Officers also made note that the vehicle matched the description provided earlier in the day as a vehicle transporting a wanted subject. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 2000 block of Avenue I. As the vehicle came to stop, the front passenger jumped out of the vehicle and began evading on foot. Officers pursued the subject and recognized him as the wanted subject. During the foot pursuit Officers observed the subject drop a backpack.”
“Officers were able to catch up to the subject and take him into custody. Officers were then able to recover the backpack. Upon search of the backpack incident to arrest, Officers located 363 grams of suspected methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia consistent with sales, and a substantial amount of US Currency. The narcotics will be sent off to the DPS Crime Lab for testing.”
“The subject was transported and booked into the Medina County Jail for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance-Penalty Group 1>=200 grams<400 grams, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Previous Conviction, and his warrant for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance-Penalty Group 1<1 gram.”
