Wanda Yoast Day proclaimed in Lytle on 90th birthday

Wanda Yoast celebrated her 90th birthday with friends as the City of Lytle honored her for her dedication and service and proclaimed November 21, 2019 at Wanda Yoast Day on her birthday and every year hereafter! The City of Lytle proclaimed November 21st as Wanda Yoast Day on her 90th birthday with a surprise honor ceremony at her birthday party at Lytle Nursing Home.
Included in the proclamation were the following statements about her contributions to the City of Lytle and a little history about her life as follows:
“Wanda Yoast has been active in the community since coming to Lytle by facilitating a cancer support group back in the 1980s, helping to launch a Senior Citizens activity group and by being a member of the Lytle Woman’s Club for many years.
Wanda also served the community by keeping them informed with her weekly column known as ‘Cousin Em’ in The Devine News from 1995 to 2013, as well as her ‘Community Profiles” columns that featured the stories of nearly forty (40) families in Lytle.
Wanda Yoast enjoyed being a part of the Lytle Lunch Club and going to dinner with dear friends once a week. The City Council appreciates all of her hard work and dedication.
The City Council appreciates all of the hard work and dedication Wanda Yoast gave to the city when she was instrumental in heading up a committee and attending PUC meetings in Austin to get METRO phones lines in the Lytle area approximately twenty-five (25) years ago.
The Lytle City Council feels that a proclamation is in order to recognize Wanda Yoast’s achievements and service over the past ninety years, so they proclaimed November 21st of this year and every year hereafter as Wanda Yoast Day in the fair City of Lytle, Texas.
They encourage all of her friends, colleagues and community members to participate in saluting Wanda Yoast”, signed Mark L. Bowen, Lytle Mayor and witnessed by Josie Campa, City Secretary.
Wanda Yoast was born in Nevada, Missouri to Lee and Zilla Walker. She married Tom Yoast in 1950. While he was serving in the United States Air Force they lived in San Antonio, Alaska, Massachusetts, the Philippines and Japan before moving back to San Antonio and then Lytle in 1983.
Wanda and Tom have three children daughters Donni and Dana and a son Dirck. They have three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
