Vera honored for reaching milestone birthday

Ofilia G. Vera was honored for reaching her 100th birthday by Mayor Tommy Ortiz during the Natalia City Council meeting on January 27. Vera turned 100 on Jan. 27, and also received proclamations honoring her from Texas State Representative Andrew Murr, Texas State Senator Pete Flores, and US Congressman Will Hurd. Ofilia Vera was honored for reaching her 100th birthday on January 27 with a proclamation from the City of Natalia. Mayor Tommy Ortiz read the following proclamation during the Natalia City Council meeting on Jan. 27:
Whereas, Ofilia G. Vera was born on January 27, 1920, and is a long-lived resident of this community; and, for many years she volunteered at the schools of Natalia ISD, assisted entities with working elections, and continues to actively attend and contribute to St. John Bosco Catholic Church with various functions.
Whereas, Ofilia G. Vera is an auxiliary of three of our community’s elected governing leaders, being the wife of Dan Vera, founding Alderman/Mayor, mother of Ruby C. Vera, former Alderwoman/Mayor, and grandmother of Selica Vera, current Alderwoman for the City of Natalia, Texas, and continues to be a strong supporter of our community’s efforts.
Whereas, in recognition of Ofilia’s Centennial Birthday, the City of Natalia, Texas is honored, along with friends and relatives, to wish you the warmest birthday wishes, and hope you enjoyed your eventful century.
Now, therefore, I, Tommy F. Ortiz, Mayor of the City of Natalia, Texas, and on behalf of the community of the City of Natalia, Texas, hereby deem it an honor and pleasure to extend this Certificate of Recognition to Ofilia G. Vera on the occasion of her 100th Birthday, with sincere congratulations and best wishes on this joyous day of celebration.
