Richard Gandara

Party: Republican
Age: 51
Education/Experience: Law enforcement degree from Southwest Texas Junior College in 1997. Former lieutenant with La Salle County Sheriff’s Department.
Frio County Sheriff Department, 2006-2014, rank of sergeant. Intermediate and advanced peace office certificates from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Elected to two terms as constable, Precinct 1. Pearsall city councilman.
Priorities: “My priority is always the safety of our community. I am the only candidate for sheriff who was born in Frio. My friendships with commissioners will help us to get a new jail. I believe rehabilitation is a wiser investment then the expense of incarceration. I believe in second chances!”

Party: Democrat
Age: 61
Education/Experience: Attended Lampasas High School, Central Texas Junior College and Angelo State University. Texas Game Warden for 27 years, Texas Game Warden Captain for eight years. Graduate of FBI – Leeda Command College, TCOLE firearms instructor, TCOLE Master Peace Office license.
Priorities: “Bring leadership to Frio County Sheriff’s Office. Leadership builds the confidence of deputies/personnel and provides effective direction. Develop relationships with constituents, stakeholders and landowners through outreach programs and public meetings. Bring accountability and respect back to the sheriff’s office. Develop longstanding relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.”
