Tid Bits

Our week in review … Officers handled 66 calls for service! That kept them busy, with only 20 traffic stops last week. Those included 7 citations and 13 warnings. It was an unusually slow week for traffic, but I expected it as two of our “traffic” guys were on vacation and the night shift guys made a lot of arrests!
Nothing to pass on involving property crimes! We didn’t have any thefts, burglaries, or criminal mischiefs reported last week. Lots of “small-time” criminals take vacation around the 4th of July and our “big-time” criminals headed to the coast to prepare for some looting when the storm hits. This combination made for a good week for us. Disclaimer: Neither of my above observations will pass a fact check, as I tend to just run with stuff that comes up in my head as I am typing away.

Officers made 11 arrests last week. I’m sure our gasoline bill will spike with all the trips to the county jail in Jourdanton. #1 – Officers responded to a report of a person firing a handgun into the side of the road in Bexar County. We received the call when he headed south. He was stopped and officers determined the handgun (a 9mm Glock) was stolen. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 & #3 – Officers stopped a suspicious vehicle in the Saddle Ridge subdivision. The driver had 3 active warrants out of Guadalupe Co. for various offenses including a stolen motor vehicle. The passenger had two active warrants out of Bexar Co. for felony drug offenses. That was a good stop, I would bet those two were “up to no good.” #4 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a female for failing to ID. She had a good reason to lie about who she was … she had two active felony warrants out of Atascosa Co. #5 – A traffic stop on the frontage road of IH-35 resulted in the arrest of the driver for D.W.I. #6 – A driver ran a red light at Main St. and Somerset St. and was stopped, the officers determined that he had six active felony warrants out of Atascosa Co. I guess he figured our officers would be asleep at 2:38 AM, he was wrong! They had just woken up from a nap and were headed to Whataburger for a meal break (maybe). #7 & #8 – This is an interesting scenario that has played out before. Officers stopped a vehicle for driving on the shoulder on Main St. While they were investigating him for D.W.I., a second vehicle pulled up behind the traffic stop. That driver was a friend of the first driver, and both were determined to be intoxicated. Both were booked into the Atascosa Co. jail on D.W.I. charges. #9 & #10 – A traffic stop on FM 2790 N resulted in the arrest of the driver for D.W.I. and the passenger for Public Intoxication. #11 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a driver for D.W.I. It was a busy week, I’m thankful that our officers are out there doing their part to keep our community and our roads safe.
You might not agree with everything the city does, but I think we all can agree that we know how to put on a fireworks show! Our 4th of July event was impressive. I bet we had record crowds, and the best fireworks show we have ever had. If you missed it, there is always next year. It appeared that everyone had a fun time. There were no fights, no thefts, no criminal mischiefs, and no auto burglaries reported. Special thanks to all our officers who helped keep the event safe, with a special shout out to Cpl. Danny Robison who drove over 70 miles in his patrol unit driving around the park perimeter and parking areas.
