A pursuit that began north of Lytle came straight through our communities on I-35 south this past Monday, January 27. The suspect led officers all the way down into Frio County, hitting three vehicles in the process. The suspect was eventually arrested on multiple charges, while a passenger inside the vehicle was airlifted when the chase came to a crashing end.
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety PIO sergeant, “At approximately 11:50 a.m., a Trooper attempted to stop a Chevy Cobalt for speeding on IH-35 South in Medina County [north of Lytle]. The male driver refused to stop and evaded law enforcement officials south on 35 before exiting in the city of Pearsall.”
Reports indicate the suspect hit two police units while going through Pearsall, before crashing into a third vehicle.
Eventually, according to PIO sergeant, “The subject intentionally crashed into another vehicle which disabled the suspect’s vehicle. He was removed and placed under arrest but then became combative and kicked at Troopers. When he was placed in the patrol car, he kicked and damaged the windshield of the unit.”
According to the PIO sergeant, “The 34-year-old male was charged with possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (his car), assault on a peace officer, and criminal mischief (damage to windshield of car). He was booked into the Frio County Jail.”
The 27-year-old female passenger in the Cobalt was transported to University Hospital with injuries.
DPS was assisted by the Medina Co SO, Lytle PD, Frio Co SO, Devine PD, Natalia PD, Pearsall PD and Pearsall ISD PD.
