Summer Fest a success; thank you to all

Summer Fest has come to an official end and only a few things remain on our clean up list! We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU from all the Summer Fest Committee and the Moore Community Improvement Club: Shelley Delgado (President) Bobby Evans (VP), Claudia Sturdevant (Treasure) and Cassie Brewer (Secretary), Rosa Cubriel, Butch Studervant, Jesse Carrasco, Yolanda Castello, Elia Herrera, Telma Rodriguez, Bobby De Hoyas, Butch Sturdevant, Johnnie Evans, Beatrice Diaz, Martha Galindo and Dee Dominguez. They all stepped up and helped out so graciously and gracefully and we could not be prouder to have you all as volunteers representing the Moore Community.
As much as our committee came together this event wouldn’t be possible without the overwhelming support of our extended community. To everyone who shared with us a little bit of their time and talents on Saturday, thank you! Thank you to our BBQ Brisket Cook-off Judges: Frio Co. Sheriff Mike Morse, Media Co. Randy Brown, Constable Rudy Ortegon, Lt. Longoria and Chief Salinas both from Frio Co Sherriff’s office who each sampled all 10 entries and determined our winners: 1st Place Team was B&E BBQ from Devine, 2nd Place went to God’s Country BBQ from Hondo and our 3rd Place winner was Smoking too Loud BBQ from Pearsall.
Thank you to the Moore Volunteer Fire Department & JD Earls for BBQing the sausage for our plate and sausage wrap sale. Thank you to Laura Dominquez and Addy’s Snowcone for hosting and facilitating our donation collection for the miscellaneous items and coordinating the pre-sale sausage plate tickets. To our community bakers and bean and potato salad makers thank you for sharing your wonderful skills of cooking to complete the plates! Thank you to Jesse Carrasco and Sonny Moreno for providing the Kiolbassa sausage for the plate sale. Thank you also to DJ King Rat for keeping the party going rain or shine and for donating your time and efforts into making Summer Fest even more memorable. Thank you to the committee and their volunteer Lucinda Rangel for organizing and keeping the kid’s games going for the little ones even with the challenges of the rain that the Duck Pond couldn’t even overcome!
Thank you to all of our Silent Auction donors: Frio County Judge Luna, Treasurer Pete Martinez, Auditor Crystal Marquez, JP Pct 1 Shannon Gates, District Clerk Ofilia Trevino, Commissioner Asuncion, Tax Assessor-Collector Anna Alaniz, Frio Co Election Clerk Sylvia Santos, Election Admin Carlos Segura, Richard Maldonado, Tractor Supply Pearsall, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Pearsall, Debbie’s Melon Patch, Petty Oil Farm & Supply, Telma Rodriguez, Marianne Garrett, Fly By’s BBQ Devine, Super Lube Pearsall, Adolph & Rosa Cubriel, Brown’s Nursery, Martha Galindo, Dee Dominguez, Shelley Delgado, Jalisco Moore, Garcia’s Restaurant Pearsall, Tyler Pike’s Lawn Care who showed us a surplus amount of generosity and helped us raise over $1,700 in the Silent Auction alone.
We had 12 teams compete in the rain delayed Cornhole Tournament. Thanks to those who stuck it out and competed. Joel and Erik took 1st place, Joe and Billy took 2nd Place and Rudy and Josh (aka The Law) took home 3rd Place Ribbons.
To those of you who came out as a BBQ contestant, Cornhole contestant or a vendor, we hope you had fun and were successful and we can’t wait to have you all again next year if not sooner! Thank you to C&C Garbage for coming to haul off our trash and Chavarria Portable Potties who donated hand washing stations to accompany the units donated by Rosa & Adolph Cubriel and Gloria and Moe Cubriel for use during our event.
We hope Summer Fest didn’t just serve as a time of fun and games but also as motivation for you and your family to continue to support our community and come together. Don’t hesitate to come join us at our next meeting on August 4th and at our Moore Monster Mash on October 30th. We love to see people come out and support us but we love having additional people come to our meeting even more. Once again, thank you all so so much, it was a collaborative effort and it quite literally would not be possible without all of you. We are already making notes on how to make next year’s event bigger and better.
