Showband Colao plus quilt and textile exhibit Feb. 8

Ray Colao is performing at the George S. Woods Community Center in Devine on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Colao, an accomplished professional show band that has graced stages all over the United States, will perform at the February 8 concert of the Devine Area Artists’ Series. The eight piece Colao Showband will feature a standard guitar, bass, drums, violin, and two surprise instruments! Ray Colao will be on lead vocals and his wife will be doing back-up vocals.
Leader of the band, Ray Colao was born in Boston, Massachusetts, where he picked up a guitar at the age of seven and started singing publicly at the age of ten. After high school, Ray joined the United States Army and was stationed overseas. In Germany his musical tastes began to expand. His return to the States brought him to Texas where his musical palette began to grow yet again. Recently, the San Antonio Current named Ray the city’s best vocalist for the third year in a row.
The band will perform current hits, Pop songs from the 70’s through the 90’s, 60’s R&B and Motown, some jazz, and country. Hits will include songs such as: “All My Ex’s Live in Texas”, “Proud Mary”, “For the Good Times”, “The Girl from Ipanema”, “My Girl”, “Unchained Melody”, “Twist and Shout”, “Sweet Caroline”, “Quando Quando”, ”Tennessee Whiskey”, and “Livin’ On a Prayer”. All members of the band are professional musicians and are well-versed in all genres of music.
In addition to the superb music, the evening will feature a Quilt and Textile exhibit. Area quilters and artisans will exhibit their favorites which will adorn the walls of the Center. Embroidered, appliquéd, machine and hand quilted, and patchwork Quilts will be on display. The exhibit will also include needle point and other textile items. All artwork will be labeled with information about the piece. Quilted jackets and vests will be on display and also for sale.
The event is the third in the Devine Area Artists’ Series’ season. The concerts are made possible by 7 Sponsors and 40 Underwriters. Sponsors of the series are: James P. Single tickets at the door for the concerts are $10. Students grades K- 12 are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Parking is free and refreshments are served at the intermission. The last concert of the season will be the popular Haywire Bluegrass Band from Kerrville on March 28th. All concerts begin at 7:30 and will be held at the George S. Woods Community Center in Devine.
