Serve and Succeed: The 2023 theme of the Wreaths Across America mission

For the second year the Current Events Club is excited to bring the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program to Devine Evergreen and St. Joseph Catholic cemeteries. This year’s ceremony and placement of wreaths on veteran graves will take place on Saturday morning, December 16, at 11:00 o’clock at the ceremony oak where the event was held last year. Join us as we participate in a program that spans across our nation and around the globe to honor our men and women in the armed forces.

The Current Events Club of Devine and Medina County has begun the preparations to bring our community together through the mission of WAA. Last year our community placed a wreath honoring every single veteran who had been identified. Over 535 wreaths! This year’s goal is 600 and we want to again honor every veteran whose name is recorded. We need your financial support to do that. It costs $17.00 to sponsor (purchase) a wreath to place in our cemeteries. With your help, we can gather to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve and their families, and Teach present and future generations about those who sacrificed and the value of our freedom.
In upcoming weeks you will find sections of our cemetery lists published here, read articles of interest from Devine News contributor Kathleene Runnels, notice posters around town offering ways to sponsor wreaths and sign up to volunteer. Look for our WAA/Current Events banner and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Octoberfest, in the Cactus Fall Festival Parade, at Devine Intermediate’s Veteran’s Day program and other events, most recently at Devine’s National Night Out. You may see us walking both cemeteries, placing markers or meeting those who have a veteran’s name to add. On December 7th, volunteers (YOU can come and help!) will place American flags to mark each veteran’s grave in final preparation for Ceremony Day, December 16th.
Everyone plays a part in bringing Wreaths Across America to our community. You can help by sponsoring (purchasing) wreaths for veterans’ graves. You can help by volunteering. Help us honor those who have served our country to protect our freedom. There are several ways to make a donation or volunteer: Scan the QR code online or visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/TX1147P, or contact location coordinators Linda and Martha or any Current Events Club member. Just call, text, or email Linda Kreinhop at 830-665-6377 or kreinhopld@gmail.com; or Martha Wall at 210-213-5620 or mwalldev@gmail.com. We welcome participation from your church, school, and civic organizations as well. There is much to do as we Serve and Succeed.
This year there are 3800 locations participating in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad. Two of them are right here in Devine, TX! National Wreaths Across America Day is less than 80 days away. You, readers, are invited participate!
