Sandra Jo Cogburn

Sandra Jo Cogburn

Sandra Jo Cogburn, 63, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2021.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Rolf and Pansy Elizabeth Williamson Breiten; brother, David Rolf Breiten; sister, Patricia Gayle Breiten White; sister-in-law, Charlotte Epp Breiten, and son, William David Cogburn.
She is survived by two sons, David Edward Cogburn and Brian Thomas Cogburn; brother, Michael Edward Breiten and his family; sister, Kay Francis King and her family; sister, Kathrine Ann Breiten Kelley and her family; sister, April Sue Breiten and her family; ex-husband, Henry Manger; and the father of her children, ex-husband William Curtis Cogburn. She was also surrounded by so many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that they are too numerous to count.
Sandra grew up in Lytle, Texas, the fifth of seven children. Born with a huge, imaginative sense of humor and a penchant for figuring things out, Sandra was always up to something – whether it was riding horses or bikes, playing games, or getting into lots of good-natured mischief with her siblings. She was the spark and the glue of the family, hosting family and friends at many holidays and celebrations. She always found a way to make others laugh. In school, she excelled in academics, acting, and various clubs and groups, graduating as valedictorian in 1976.
Always caring for and giving to others, Sandra was in the third year of obtaining her bachelor’s degree when she and her husband, Curtis adopted their first child, William. Finding her calling, she set her studies aside, taking to motherhood in an instant. Sandra and Curtis then adopted two more boys, brothers David and Brian. It was being a mom that she enjoyed the most. Active in her church, Sandra was always working with youth groups, helping with fundraisers, going on mission trips, and even helping to make the softball field a success.
Sandra’s second love may have been creating things and solving problems. She recently finished overseeing the building of her third home from the foundation to the roof and everything in between. She worked at Security State Bank for twenty years as a loan officer. She then spent another twenty years at San Antonio Water Systems, putting her best talents to work where her reputation was well respected.
Sandra touched so many lives. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to August Heart, a free heart screening program offered to San Antonio area teens in an effort to reduce the incidence of sudden cardiac death in youth. You can find information at www.augustheart.org
