Roberto R. Reyna, Sr., age 87 of Devine, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in Devine, Texas.
Roberto was born on March 29, 1934 in Arcabuz Tamaulipas, Mexico to parents, Eligio and Lucita (Rios) Reyna.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eligio and Lucita Reyna; wife, Alicia Reyna; brothers, Rodrigo Reyna, Rosendo Reyna; sister, Emma Jimenuz. He is survived by his son, Roberto Reyna, Jr. (Gloria); daughters, Bertha Garza (Robert), Elizabeth Reyna (Luis); sister, Juanita Garcia; grandchildren, Veronica Reyna, Amanda Rodriguez, Mario Rodriguez, Jr., Michael Rodriguez, Ray Sanchez, Christopher Silva; great-grandchildren, Antonio Morales, Nina Morales, Anissa Morales, Marco Morales, Christian Rodriguez, Brianna Rodriguez, Tara Fraga, Isabell Rodriguez, Michala Rodriguez, Ray Sanchez III, Adan Sanchez, Mathias Sanchez.
Roberto came to Devine in 1959, where he started working as a ranch hand for George Thompson. In 1961, he went to work for Douglas V Downing Well Service and Drilling for a few years and then later went to work for the City of Devine. Upon leaving City of Devine, he then bought a machine to make floor tile and it was then that he started building his forever home. Mr. Charlie Garrett and Melba Sollock assisted him in getting his US citizenship and with their assistance, they were able to get him his job at Kelly AFB when he retired after 20 years of service. Roberto would always be helping the community in any way possible. He joined the Devine Volunteer Fire Department where he and his wife would make LOTS of bean and cheese tacos for the homecoming games at Warhorse stadium for donations.
In the 80’s, he bought property in Sullivan City, TX and sold several lots which allowed him to buy material to put up a 40′ by 100′ warehouse. He then sold that warehouse and was able to then build Reyna’s Welding in Devine where he and his son, Robert had it for 34 years. You could always see him building his bar-b-que pits at the shop any time you went there, he really enjoyed making bar-b-que pits, it was something that always kept him going. Roberto had the opportunity to work alongside Robert up until he went into Devine Health and Rehab. He will always be remembered as a hardworking, loving, and helpful person.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 12, 2021, 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Devine, Texas. Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 10:00 A.M. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Devine, Texas with internment following at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery.
