Robert “Beto” J. Gallegos

Robert “Beto” J. Gallegos passed away at Mission Trails Hospital in San Antonio, TX, on March 17, 2019, at the age of 83.
Robert was born on Dec. 25, 1935, in Devine, TX to Salome and Carlota J. Gallegos.
He was known as a dedicated, hard worker and a fair employer. The start of his construction company didn’t come overnight. Robert worked hard in his early teens and young adult years by picking cotton, baling hay, milking cows, shade tree mechanic – you name it and he probably did it. As time went by, he married and had his family and knew he had to provide for them. Robert’s life went through many facets, but his main goal in life was always to establish his own construction company. His life took many turns, but he always kept his dream alive. He applied himself to learn the methods and techniques of building construction from old-timers in Devine. It benefitted him well.
As the years went by, he became known as a trustworthy and reliable home builder and concrete man. Robert and his sons worked together side-by-side, making sure the job would meet the inspector’s guidelines. He established a very high-standard work ethic and expected his workers to meet it.
Robert enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved fishing and he would take off with his son or his friends to Padre Island, Corpus Christi or Choke Canyon to fish. Robert was active right up to his last days. His love of travel took him many places and his wonderful companion shared his love and interest. He had a knack for telling all sorts of stories. The majority of them would be so funny that people would be doubled over in laughter. One of his favorite pastimes was eating breakfast at a restaurant with his companion, Margie, and his son, Mike. Robert had a great sense of humor, he loved to joke and kid around and laughter kept him young at heart.
Robert never met a stranger, he always had a warm ‘hello’ for everyone. He was also very generous and gave from the heart. He helped people in need all the time. Robert will be missed by his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his loving companion, Margarita P. Juarez of Devine; children, Bobby Joe Gallegos of Somerset, Janie Gallegos of Pflugerville, Helen Moreno (Rudy) of San Antonio, Michael Gallegos (Hortensia) of Devine, Marylou Ann Chandler (James) of San Antonio; siblings, Joe A. Gallegos (Mary) of Devine, Ann J. Gallegos of Pearsall, Dora Gallegos Dodds of Mico; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
