Powerlifters rack up medals in Somerset

At the Somerset Powerlifting Invitational last Saturday, 350+ lifters competed in different weight classifications and your hometown Warhorses and Arabians brought home a lot of the hardware handed out. On the latest state rankings, seniors Steven Ramirez is 2nd and Lucas Byrd is tied for 3rd.
The freshman Arabians claimed Team Championship. Kyra Keylich (123lb class) earned 1st place with a total of 465lb. Khali Key also got 1st place in the 198lb freshman division with a total of 650lb.
In the JV division, Arabian Christiana Ortiz got 2nd place in the 220lb class with a total of 505lb while in the Varsity Division Paige Coté claimed 5th place in the 181lb class with a total of 835lbs. Felicity Diaz got 6th place in the 220lb class with a total of 660lb.
Several other Arabians came close to getting a medal but still finished top 10. Zaylee Zimmerle 8th, Alexis Shook 9th, Journey Shoemake 7th, Clarissa Ybanez 10th, Jessie Ramirez 7th, and Caitlin Casas 10th.
In the Warhorse Freshman Division, DJ Dzierzanowski got 3rd in 181lb class with a total of 645lbs while Justin Rozier got 3rd in the 132lb class with a total of 480lb.
For the Varsity Warhorses, the team received the 3rd place trophy in team totals. Kaleb Zertuche got 4th in the 132lb class with a total of 870lbs, Steven Ramirez earned 2nd place in the 165lb class with a total of 1,430lbs, which was just 5lbs away from the 1st place lifter.
Lucas Byrd got 1st place in the 181lb class with a total of 1,390lbs, Lupe Rodriguez got 10th in the 181lbs class, Garret Carver got 6th in the 220lb class, Diego Hernandez got 9th in the 220lb class, and Christian Arredondo got 3rd place in the 275lb class with a total of 1,395lbs.
The Warhorses and Arabians get back to business Saturday, February 10 at Medina Valley High School. The competition begins at 9:00am.
