Pirates snag a big win

Lytle Pirate Mathew Sanchez goes up for he shot.

This past Friday the Pirates overcame the traditional powerhouse Devine Warhorses 90-58 on December 11th. With a playoff atmosphere in the air, the crowds going crazy on both sides, the Pirates came out ready to play from the tip off. Senior Mark Cantu and Junior Daniel Aguirre lead the defensive charge all night applying full court pressure on the Warhorses leading to 18 Pirate steals and 9 deflections in the four quarters of play. The Phenom Jordan Balderaz had a career high of 36 points and 16 rebounds. At one point in the game, Balderaz scored 8 straight points dominating the paint all night long. Junior Matt Sanchez put on a show for the ages. Shooting from Interstate 35, Matt Sanchez scored 31 points on the night making 9 three pointers on the night.
After 40 days and nights in the desert, the boys will finally return for two home games this week hosting the La Pryor Bulldogs tomorrow night at 7:45 pm and the Devine Warhorses on Friday. We want to wish the girls good luck as we sit in the stands and cheer them on tomorrow night as they open district play. Go Lady Pirates!!!
