Pirates finish season as District Champs

The Lytle Pirates celebrate after winning the District title.

The 14-0 Lytle Pirates took on Industrial this past weekend and after two hard games, the Pirates have finished their season as the District Champions. They lost 4-17 on Friday and 0-1 on Saturday in Beeville. Industrial will move on to face Llano.
Friday night in Beeville, the Pirates lost their first Bi-District playoff game to Industrial 0-1. Industrial’s only run came in the 2nd and the Pirates earned 3 hits but could not make it around the bases. Caleb Wood, Kasen Boyd, and Justin De Leon each earned a single. Wood pitched all 9 innings and threw 43 strikes in 79 pitches strikes. He allowed only 3 hits.
Saturday in their 2nd match up, the Pirates fell 4-17 and ended their playoff runs as the District Champions. Lytle earned a run in the first inning when Zakry Placido and Wood walked and with 2 outs, De Leon singled and Placido scored from 2nd. Bottom of the 2nd, Malakai Castro singled and then stole his way around the bases and scored when C. Aldridge hit a ground ball. Going into the final at bat and down 2-17, Lytle did not give up and added 2 more runs to the board. With one out, Wood singled to get on base. Sebastian Flores hit a ground ball and the De Leon walked. Faustino Sanchez hit a ground ball to 3rd, advancing all the runners and Wood scored. 2 outs, Boyd walked and Flores scored the last run of the season, 4-17.
Collin Aldridge 1 RBI. Sanchez 1 RBI. Logan Wilson 1 triple. Placido 1 run. Castro 1 single, 1 run. Wood 1 single, 1 run. Flores 1 run. Boyd 1 RBI. De Leon 1 RBI. Wilson threw 28 strikes in 45 pitches. Mason Davila had 18 strikes in 31 pitches. De Leon threw 20 strikes in 53 pitches. .
The Pirates end another great season 22-7-1 and the District Champions in an aggressively tough district.
