Over 75 athletes set for 2018-2019 Powerlifting season

A school record 75+ Mustang and Lady Mustangs have come out for the 2018-2019 Powerlifting season in Natalia. A line of success has resulted in the increase in numbers yearly as advancing to regional and even state has become an expectation, not just a dream.
“Natalia Powerlifting has become a prestigious program recognized by coaches all across the state and for a good reason, since several regional and state appearances have been accomplished,” Athletic Director Ilyan Martinez said. “We also have a regional and a state championship to show for it.”
This season, there have been a few changes in leadership as Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Ilyan Martinez has stepped down from the head Powerlifting position, one in which he has had the previous six seasons.
“Our coaching staff will consist of New Head Coach Kasey Crowther, Girls Assistant Kendal Hajovsky and Boys Assistant Coach “Doc” Seiler.
Martinez admitted he will continue to assistant where he can, but for the most part the three mentioned above will lead the stampede of Mustangs and Lady Mustangs.
“This teams greatest strength is their selflessness and willingness to put in extra work in the weight room, maintain strict diets and represent Natalia to the best of their abilities,” Martinez said. “We will be changing up workout regiments and diets to optimize the skills and talent that our school has to offer so that our student athletes can be successful. We are working to make sure that we have lifters in each weight class so our team can have optimal success.”
The Powerlifting season officially begins on Saturday, January 5th when Natalia will host their meet for a second straight year. After this, Natalia will compete in a series of meets at the Texas Strength System located at 2410 Boardwalk Street in San Antonio with each of those meets taking place Thursday evenings.
The girls Regional Meet is scheduled for February 28th, the boys Regional on March 9th with the girls State Meet on March 15th and the boys State Meet on March 23rd.
“It is our expectation that Natalia will be represented well at both the Regional and State Meets,” Martinez said. “I am certain that our lifters will strive to be the best in the state.”
