NJH 7th Grade falls to Brahmas

The 7th grade football team opened district play against the Stockdale Brahmas on Thursday, October 10th. Natalia played a great defensive game, but came up just shy when all was said and done.
The Brahmas received the opening kick-off and held possession to form a 55 yard drive. They scored on a 7 yard run midway through the 1st quarter. However, they were stopped during the 2 point attempt.
The Mustangs returned the ensuing kick-off to the 45 yard line. On their offensive possession, they turned the ball over on a miscommunication between the quarterback and receiver.
Stockdale took possession after the interception. Natalia’s defense pulled together to stop the Brahmas and force a punt.
As the 2nd quarter began, the Mustangs drove the ball but were stopped short of a first down. They punted the ball away and Stockdale began a 67 yard drive.
The Mustangs had the Brahmas backed up on a long 3rd down but allowed a long 34 yard run, resulting in an additional touchdown for Stockdale. The Brahmas were unsuccessful on the 2 point attempt, leading 0-12.
The Mustangs began a nice drive and moved the ball relentlessly. Nestor Lopez had a long 36 yard run negated because of a holding penalty. This brought the game to halftime with the Mustangs down.
Natalia received the opening kickoff in the second half and attempted to resume their ball movement. They were stopped short on a failed conversion on 4th and 5, which gave the ball to the Brahmas.
Stockdale’s offense went stale during the second half and could not get anything going. They turned the ball over, and Natalia took over on their own 40 yard line.
The final quarter began, and belonged to the Mustangs. They were able to maintain possession most of the quarter and converted on a 15 yard run by Nestor Lopez on the last play of the game. The final score was 6-12.
The Mustangs will regroup and look to challenge the Dilley Pups next week here at home. Kick-off is scheduled for 10/17/19 at 5:00 PM.
