Natalia softball battles past Hondo

The Natalia Lady Mustangs were able to score the final five runs in Hondo last week, to work past the 4A Owls 7-3 in a non-district inter-county battle.
Hondo struck first, as they used three straight triples to take a short-lived 1-0 lead as McElory scored for the home squad.
Natalia was able to respond in the bottom of the second, as they used a Mena Figueroa single, an error put into play by Bryanna Perez and a single by KK Lara to take a 2-1 lead.
Hondo surged back ahead of Natalia, as they used a base on balls and a two run home-run by Fernandez to own a 3-2 edge.
From here on out, it was all Natalia. The girls in blue tied things in the top of the 4th thanks to a M. Figueroa single, an error put into play by Woodson and a stolen base on a passed ball.
Natalia finished off the Owls with a pair of runs in the 5th and two in the 6th to defeat Hondo 7-3.
“I was pleased with how we finished the game,” Coach Tara Cortinas said.
Natalia and Hondo finished with seven hits each, as Natalia forced an additional four errors on the Owl defense.
At bat: Taty Alvarado 0-3, Trista Vera 0-4, Biviana Figueroa 2-4, Mena Figueroa 2-3-3runs scored, Abi Woodson 0-4-1run scored, Bryanna Perez 0-1-1run scored, Gabrielle Santoya 1-2, KK Lara 2-2-1run scored, Dezarae Perez 0-2-1run scored.
