Change of bylaws in Medina County Republican Party sparks concern, meeting will be PUBLIC after all

ANOTHER UPDATE: The meeting has been changed to a PUBLIC meeting once again, so all are welcome to attend. This announcement was made late in the afternoon yesterday, Thursday Feb 1. In addition, the Medina County Republican party dropped the challenge on precinct chair members Jerry Beck and Mireya Vanderslice.

In a post the morning of Feb 1, the Medina County Republican Party chair had stated that the meeting would now be a closed session and that Beck and Vanderslice “are not authorized to attend this closed meeting”, but they have since changed their stance.

The Medina County Republican Party’s monthly meeting is scheduled for February 5, 2024 at 6:30pm, tentatively scheduled at the MCRP Head Quarters located at 1706 Ave M, Hondo, Texas.

PLEASE PRESERVE WATER

ATTENTION: DEVINE CITIZENS

The City of Devine has a major water main break on FM 1343. This is the 12 inch pipe that feeds our water towers. We currently have enough water in the tanks to cover approximately 4 hours, possibly until 12 noon. Our Public works crew is on the scene.

14:38PM – Officer dispatched to Hondo Ave for minor accident involving two vehicles.
15:34PM – Officer dispatched to Hondo Ave for minor hit and run accident.
20:17PM – Officer advised go cart on road with no light. Made contact with kids on mini bike and asked them to put them away.

Harold Shaw

Harold Shaw, beloved spouse of Viola Shaw, passed away on January 25, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on March 28, 1946, Harold lived a life filled with love, joy, and a deep appreciation for nature.
Harold was a devoted family man, cherishing his role as a husband, father, Popo, Pawpaw, uncle, and friend. His warm and kind-hearted nature touched the lives of all those around him. As a loving spouse to Viola, his unwavering support and dedication were an inspiration to others.

On Tuesday night, the Mustangs traveled down I-35 to take on the Dilley Wolves. Looking to improve to 2-0 in district, the Mustangs came out red hot and jumped out to an 11-2 lead and would continue to build on it as they would end the 1Q up 23-5. Jordan Roberts and Peyton Alderete would both knock down two three-pointers in the quarter. Jordan Roberts would lead the way in the 1Q as he scored 13 1Q points. As the 2Q rolled around, the Wolves started to get things going on both ends of the floor as they would finish the quarter on a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to 9 but the Mustangs would…

Lady Mustangs powerlifting team champs; Sanchez, Segovia, Velasquez win gold

Natalia Girls Powerlifting – Fourteen of the 21 Arabian powerlifters that earned 2nd place in Natalia recently.

The Lady Mustangs got to keep the championship hardware in Natalia as they were the overall team champions January 17 at their home meet.
Natalia racked up 42 points to top runner up Devine who finished with 34 points. Uvalde was third with 32 points.
Weight class champions were Karianna Sanchez in the 105lb division, Araceley Segovia in the 198lb division, and Olivia Velasquez in the 242lb division.
Silver medals were earned by Abigail Fulton in the 123lb class, Ashley Aguirre…

Horses back in the thick of the playoff race with huge victories over Uvalde, Carrizo Springs

The Horses have something to play for as they enter the second round of District 29-4A sitting in the fourth and final qualifying state playoff spot in league standings.
The way things played out is Devine beat Uvalde Tuesday, January 16 then pulled off a huge victory against Carrizo Springs Friday, January 19 that took them from 0-4, bottom-of-the-barrel, looking-up-at-everyone-else to wholly-smokes, we-are-in-full-playoff-pursuit-mode the rest of the season!
The Horses began the second round against Pleasanton Tuesday, January 23.

Devine entered last night’s game at Pleasanton still sporting their undefeated District 29-4A record at 8-0 after wins last week against Carrizo Springs and Uvalde.
Head Coach Jim Sessions after last week’s games stated, “The girls are really starting to come together and are playing well right now!”
There are big district games still to be played, each of which could have huge implications on where the Arabians finish in the overall standings going into the state playoffs.

Devine did not come out with advantages in many of the key statistical categories in this one, but they did come out on top of the most important one which is the final score as they defeated the Lady Cats 54-44 after outscoring them by nine points in the second half.
