With two more district games behind them, the Mustangs are now 0-3 but have a lot more district to play. Up next is Dilley on December 28th and then West Campos on December 31st.
Facing Cotulla on December 17th, the Mustangs started slow in the first and then kept pace with the Cowboys to end the first half 12-18. Cotulla took control of the game in the third and controlled it to a 22-46 win. “I was happy with our defensive effort against Cotulla. We did a good job of slowing down Cotulla who can score the ball at a pretty good pace. Unfortunately, we were unable to get many shots to fall. We have to do a better job offensively of playing disciplined and look for easy scoring opportunities,” said Coach Justin Welsh.

Q1 2-7, Q2 12-18, Q3 14-36, Q4 22-46.
When they faced Poth on Friday, the Mustangs held their head up against the tough team. Poth would take an early lead and hold on for the 33-93 win. “Poth is a really good basketball team and much improved from last season. They jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead due to their good shooting and aggressive defense and we just weren’t able to get into a rhythm offensively or defensively for much of the night. We did a good job of getting to the free throw line but were not able to convert as we missed 13 free throws. We have to be able to take advantage of every chance we get to put points on the board,” added Coach Welsh.
