Mustangs overpower Pirates 30-3

Natalia’s Ray Rizo comes head to head with a Pirate defender as fellow Mustang Nikolai Patino blocks.

Another Legacy Bowl has been fought and won by the Natalia Mustangs ending in a score of 30-3. Neither team made a touchdown until the second quarter when Natalia scored 9 points vs Lytle with 3. In the third quarter Natalia added another 14 points and finished the game in the fourth quarter with another 7 points.
“Obviously any time we get a win over Lytle it is great. The game atmosphere was electric. We cannot thank our community and supporters enough for the energy they brought to the game, especially in the second half. Both communities were out in full force for the game and I think that is a neat opportunity for our kids to witness. Some key positives to take from this week are, we won the 2017 Legacy Bowl, our kids played hard for 4 quarters, and we were physical in all three phases of the game. Some things to fix for next week are, we must start fast on offense (cannot wait until the second half), ball security must get better, must continue to get 11 helmets to the ball, and we must get better as a team,” said Coach Chad Graves.
Highlights by Quarter
In the second quarter Lytle’s #10 Thomas Dominguez attempted a 36 yard field goal that was good. Natalia’s #12 Ray Rizo ran 75 yards for a touchdown, however the extra point was blocked. Also, Natalia’s #8 Oscar Alvarez made a 28 yard field goal.
In the third quarter Natalia’s #12 Ray Rizo ran for a 25 yard touchdown and the point after kicked by #8 Oscar Alvarez was good.
In the fourth quarter Natalia’s #1 Dustin Richardson 4 yard pass to #3 Julian Martinez was good for a touchdown.
Natalia vs. D’Hanis
The Mustangs host D’Hanis this Friday.
“We have a very bitter taste in our mouth from last year’s game in D’Hanis. Last year was a huge let down after playing so well against Lytle. D’Hanis is a well coached football team that will be fundamentally sound. On offense, we must take care of the football, start fast, and eliminate penalties. On defense, we must get aligned correctly against D’hanis’ multiple formations and motions, pressure the QB, and take away the passing game. This will be a huge game for us to allow us to start the year 3-0. It would be AWESOME if we could replicate the same energy from the community as we did this past week. I don’t think our community knows how much their excitement gets our kids going. I loved losing my voice during the game because our fans were so loud. Show up early, wear your blue, and get LOUD!” Graves said.
