Natalia High School Marching Band made an excellent showing competing as one of 26 bands at the Area E Marching Contest last Saturday, October 28, 2017 in Cuero, Texas. Natalia almost made the finals placing 11th out of 26, as top 10 advanced to finals.
The Top 10 Bands advancing to finals from Prelims were: Jourdanton, Luling, Santa Gertrudis, Palacios, Odem, Edna, Hitchcock, Blanco, Santa Rosa and Industrial.
State Qualifiers – The Final 5 were: Santa Gertrudis, Santa Rosa, Luling, Odem, and Industrial.
“We are very proud of our student’s accomplishments this season. Two years ago at the Area competition, which was our first time advancing, we finished second to last. This year we competed against 25 other bands and almost made the finals. Three out of the five judges had us in the top 9 and one of the marching judges had us ranked 2nd”, said Sergio Mendez, Natalia High School Band Director. “We will continue to work hard as we get ready for our upcoming performances and contests. We would like to thank our administration, boosters, teachers, parents and maintenance department for all the help and support.”
Comments from five Judges about the Natalia Band were: “This was a clearly executed show in individual marching. Excellent footwork.” “Good movement and flow. You held forms well.” “Good Brass performance today.” “Excellent Woodwind sounds.” “Good musical and ensemble performance.”
Natalia made history with their show ‘Paranormal’, an intense and tough show. It was the fourth straight year Natalia received an overall Division I rating. This was the second time in four years and just the second time in school history for the band to receive straight 1s.
Their show Paranormal featured these selections: “Unexplained Noises,” “Séance,” and “Get Out” by Gary Gilroy.
