MGSgt (Ret.) Francisco Alfaro

Francisco Alfaro was born to Felipe and Victoriana Cuellar Alfaro in Lytle, Texas on October 4, 1946. He entered eternal rest on January 5, 2021 at the age of 74 years old.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Cristina Solis, and by his cherished parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Consuelo Hernandez Alfaro; his daughter Lisa (Scott Hudson); his son Frank Eduardo (Michelle Grajeda); his adoring granddaughters Danielle Solis, Abigail Grajeda, Zora and Althea Hudson; his sister Evangelina Deleon; his brothers Pedro (Lupe), Gilberto, and Ricardo (Isabel); sisters-in-law Manuela Hernandez, Gloria Ybarra (Augustin), Esther Hernandez, Beatriz Hernandez, Enadelia Hernandez; brothers-in-law Jesus Hernandez and Santos (Carolyn) Hernandez. Francisco is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Francisco – “Frank” or “Tita” – graduated from Lytle High School in 1965. He joined the US Marine Corps after graduation and later the USMC Reserves, retiring as Master Gunnery Sergeant after 26 years. He earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from UTSA in 1979. He retired from civil service in 1998, after working for years at Kelly AFB. After retirement, he worked in various capacities in Lytle ISD, such as math and special education teacher. Throughout his life, Frank was active in community affairs, such as teaching adult education classes, citizen and ESL classes; performing volunteer income tax assistance; organizing fundraising events for youth and senior citizens; coaching youth sports; and teaching religion classes at his local St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, where he served as bookkeeper after retiring from Lytle ISD. In 1989, Frank was selected as Lytle’s “Outstanding Man of the Year” by the Lytle Chamber of Commerce.
Frank’s activities throughout his life exemplified his passions: family, education, and faith. He was known as a lively, talkative person who never met a stranger, and he will be missed.
Visitation was held for Francisco Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Lytle, Texas from 4PM until 9PM with a Rosary recited at 7PM. Mass will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at 10AM.
