Meet and greet with author Dennis R. Blocker @ the Driscoll Public Library March 21

The Driscoll Public Library is hosting a meet and greet with writers Dennis R. Blocker and Dennis R. Blocker II, co-authors of “The Dogs I’ve Known in 2 Wars, Book One: Iraq,” on Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 am.
The elder Blocker was on location in Iraq and Afghanistan training and handling dogs during the wars in those countries. German shepherds Toris, Laky, and Beauty were his companions in Iraq, and are featured in this book.
“My dad saw bravery, fear, and fun times with these dogs, all of whom have passed away,” said his son, Dennis II. “They saved thousands of lives.”
A second book, about Blocker’s experiences with a group of Belgian Malinois in Afghanistan, is due out in December 2020.
Dennis II said his father was motivated to share the stories of the adventures he shared with his dogs after a bout with cancer.
“He needed to write the books so the dogs and what they did are not forgotten,” Dennis II said.
Father and son both plan to attend the meet and greet in Devine, where they’ll share stories about writing the books, as well as how war dogs are bred and trained.
Copies of the first book will be on sale at the event for $25, and t-shirts for $15. Cash, credit cards, and checks are accepted.
