Martha “Marty” Eloise Hanby Youngs, age 75, of San Antonio, joined her husband in heaven on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born November 2, 1942 in Houston, Texas, one of four children of Herman Edward Hanby, Sr. and Miriam Shirley Crouch Hanby.
Marty graduated from Smiley High School in Houston. She married William “Bill” Youngs on December 1, 1978 in Reno, Nevada. They were blessed with thirty-eight years of marriage and two children at the time of Bill’s death on December 12, 2016.
For over thirty years, Marty was a civil service employee at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland AFB. She retired as the secretary for the Vice Commander.
Marty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Herman Edward Hanby, Jr. and Donald Edwin Hanby and by her sister, Carolyn Elizabeth Caldwell.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Jerry Spencer of Castroville; son, Richard B. Youngs of Lakewood, Washington; two grandchildren, Jerad Spencer and his wife, Michelle, and Paige Spencer; two great-grandchildren, Ysela Gabrielle Spencer and Jaden Spencer; brother-in-law, Travis Caldwell; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 starting at 9:00 am at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Marty’s life at 10:00 am. Entombment of her ashes will be private for the family in the Columbarium at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
