Manuel M. Rodriguez, age 84, of Devine, Texas passed away Thursday February 23, 2017 in Devine, Texas.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad and Angelita Rodriguez; daughter, Eloisa (Chita) Cuellar; brothers, Ramon and Jose Rodriguez.
Manuel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julita Rodriguez of Devine, daughter, Olga Morales (Sisto) of Lytle; sons, Manuel Jr. Rodriguez (Melissa) of Devine, Robert Rodriguez (Tencha) of Devine, Tony Rodriguez (Bernice) of Carrollton, TX, Gilbert Rodriguez (Rose) of Devine; son-in-law, Juan Cuellar of Devine; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Manuel is survived by his sisters, Amelia Perez of Maricopa, AZ, Margarita Elms of Devine, Maria Garcia of San Antonio, Sofia Lopez of Devine, Felicitas Rodriguez of Wellton, AZ, Jessie Torres of Casa Grande, AZ; brothers, Trinidad Rodriguez of Stanfield, AZ, Tomas Rodriguez of Stanfield, AZ, Maximo Rodriguez of Stanfield, AZ, Juan Rodriguez of Devine, and Ricardo Rodriguez of Devine.
Manuel was a devout Catholic who loved and honored our Lord.
Manuel served our country 1954 thru 1956 and earned the rank of a sharp shooter in the Army National Guard.
Manuel retired in 1986, after 37 years of service as a fire fighter and fire inspector from Kelly Air Force Base.
He served his community on the Devine Volunteer Fire Department as a fire fighter and retired as Fire Chief. He also served as a Medina County Sheriff Deputy Reserve for over 30 years.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, March 3, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with interment to follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home.
