Lytle XC riding championship wave; Ruiz sends shout-out

Lytle Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz is fresh off a Pirate and Lady Pirate Cross Country championship performance but took the time to send thanks to those who have helped his program throughout the difficult 2020 season.
“I want to thank all the parents, our superintendent, Lytle ISD school board members, our Athletic Director, the Administration, and our Transportation, Cafeteria, and Maintenance workers, and all the others who made the district results possible,” Ruiz stated. “There were times when I did not know if we would get to this meet. With everyone’s help, the meet was made possible, and the moments the runners made will last a lifetime. THANK YOU!”
Ruiz referred to a golden moment that happened after the invitational and the award ceremonies concluded.
“One of the final things that happened at the meet,” Ruiz began “was when I was walking across the street to get on the bus. A truck stopped in front of me and a man from Poth rolled down his window and said to me ‘you have a great Cross Country program, I really enjoyed watching your kids compete today’, and then he gave me a fist bump. That was the best compliment I got all day, because it came from someone outside our group and somehow, we got his attention. And, at least to me, it showed me that hopefully we are doing things the right way.”
