Lytle XC at FEAST for second time this season

The Lytle Lady Pirates placed fourth and the Pirates placed fifth in the FEAST Invitational last Saturday morning. Eighteen different programs with 108 competitors were represented in the 2-mile girl’s division while seventeen programs with 293 runners were represented in the 5K boy’s race.
The following is Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz’s recap of the day’s events.
“The Lytle Pirate XC team traveled to River City Community Church Athletic Fields again on Saturday to participate in the FEAST #2 Invitational Meet. The team got an opportunity to run on a flat, fast course against some great competition and they took advantage of it.
The varsity boys ran up a level against some bigger SA schools, which helped most of them post some personal best times. JoseCarlos Hernandez led the boys to a 5th place team finish out of 10 with his 11th place finish.
The varsity girls finished 4th out of 13 with Marissa Lopez leading the way as she sneaked out the individual title at the end and setting a personal record as a result. She, along with all the varsity girls, had great races that they needed leading up to this week as they run against Poth and Karnes City, two of the strongest teams in the district.

The JV boys with four freshman and a sophomore ran up a level as well and got to compete against some varsity teams in Race #2 and competed very well finishing sixth out of 11. Freshman Abel Sanchez ran a great race finishing 13th with a time of 17:35 which would have put him 4th on our varsity and his effort helped the boys move up to 4th out of 16 in the final standings when they merged the divisions.
The JV girls did not have enough for a team, but all four young ladies also set personal bests with Yadhira Mendez leading the way with a 14th place finish.
The team next travels to Poth on Saturday for a Pre-District meet. The varsity girls will start the day early at 7:30 am and will find out what chances they will have later in October of advancing out of district on the 26th.”
Thank you, Coach Ruiz and congratulations to you and your Lady Pirates and Pirates!
