Lytle PD weekly dose…

Ready for your weekly dose of Lytle P.D. activity? For the week ending Sept. 10, 2023: Officers handled 67 calls for service and conducted 59 traffic stops. Of those 59 stops, 30 resulted in a citation and 29 were warnings.

Our night shift staff made all four (4) of the arrests last week: #1 – Officers responded to a driver who fell asleep in the drive-thru of the Whataburger. Officers arrived and determined he was intoxicated. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. The Whataburger drive-thru lane has led to many DWI arrests over the past years.I should make it an honorary member of our DWI enforcement team. #2 – Officers responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle on FM 2790 @ IH-35. The driver was located and provided a false name. Once the officers figured out who she was, it was determined she had a felony probation violation warrant. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3- Officers conducted a traffic stop on McDonald St. and arrested a female on numerous felony narcotics charges. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #4 – A traffic stop for a speeder on Main St. resulted in the arrest of the male driver for DWI. He was booked into the Medina Co. Jail.
We had two (2) property crimes reported last week: #1 – H.E.B. Plus reported the theft of unknown items, and the suspect fled in a red Hyundai. #2 – This time the Whataburger drive-thru was a victim. A truck with a large ladder struck the “Max Height” sign, causing damage, and fled the scene. We do not believe the sign was targeted because of the involvement of the drive-through with our DWI enforcement team.
Our National Night Event is quickly approaching; mark your calendars for Tuesday, Oct. 3. It will be held at the Lytle Community Center from 6P-8P. Join us for free food and drinks. If your organization wants a table, please reach out to us and we will get you set up.
On Saturday we provided law enforcement support for the Lytle VFW Freedom Walk. The turnout was better than I expected, the heat is keeping a lot of people “out of the action”. They had a really good crowd! Sgt. David Lopez talked me into riding our bikes, I was against it because of the heat but he said it only for an hour or so. I gave in, we had a good time. I only fell off my bicycle once; the mayor was close by and saw the whole thing. There was a rumor going around that he pushed me down, don’t believe it. Many people will attest that I don’t need any help falling off my bicycle.
It’s almost game time! The big Lytle Pirate and Natalia Mustang rivalry game. On Friday, Lytle will make the short trip down SH 132 and visit Mustang Stadium. The Pirates are undefeated this season! Yes, I said undefeated. Natalia has won the last 8 rivalry games; we need to break the streak or find a new rival.
