It’s time for your weekly dose of Lytle P.D. activity … Officers responded to 49 calls for service and conducted 58 traffic stops. Of those 58 traffic stops, 28 resulted in citations and 30 were warnings. The “warnings” nudged out the citations by a mere 2 stops.
There were two arrests made last week, both were a result of the same traffic stop. Ofc. L. Diaz (assisted by Ofc. R. Garcia) stopped a vehicle on Main St. for a defective headlight. The driver, a 26-year-old male, had an active warrant out of Bexar Co. for theft. Officers were going to release the vehicle to the passenger, a 27-year-old female, but, when they checked her driver’s license status, she came back wanted out of Bexar Co. as well for a burglary of a building charge. We call that a “double play”, and both were booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. The vehicle was released to the registered owner.
Three property crimes were reported last week: #1 – A complainant reported that their mini-storage unit (19200 N. Somerset St.) was broken into. They were unsure of what was taken, which is often a common denominator in mini-storage burglaries. #2 – A N. Prairie St. resident reported that an unknown person struck his fence, damage was estimated at $200. #3 – A complaint reported that an iPhone 14 valued at $730 was stolen from the Lytle I.S.D. fieldhouse on 9/26/2024 between 5 and 10:30P.
A “rare” robbery occurred on Friday evening just after 10 PM at the Subway sandwich shop on McDonald St. A male suspect entered the business, brandished a handgun, and demanded money. The clerks complied and he fled on foot. Both clerks were sure it was a pellet gun, and the video even supports this. Not that it makes it any lesser of a crime or that it can’t do serious harm, but I am sure it was a stressful situation. The good news is that we have lots of video and our investigators are working on finding this bandit.
Not to make light of the situation, but the first thing that came into my mind when I was notified of the incident was a scene from National Lampoon’s Vacation from 1983. Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) used a BB gun to overtake the security guard (John Candy) at Wally World.
This past Sunday, St. Andrew had their annual festival. As usual, several of our officers, including me, worked off-duty security for them. As usual, I bought raffle tickets and didn’t win anything. I avoided all the tasty food and brought along some healthy snacks. Two takeaways from the event: #1- I was directing traffic on Main St. (helping pedestrians cross the street) and almost got hit a couple of times. I realized that while losing weight has its health benefits, it is a drawback when directing traffic. I guess I was harder to see, or perhaps when I weighed 60 pounds more, people were more afraid of hitting me and damaging their car. #2- It was very hot until the sun went down! Especially out on the blacktop. It made me think. It seems like no matter who puts on a festival or special event, or when they put it on … it is always hot. I would love to have to wear a jacket, heck even a windbreaker, at a festival. It would be a highlight of my career; that I would never forget.
