Lytle Coach Lori Wilson scores 100th win

Congratulations to Lytle Lady Pirate Coach Lori Wilson on her 100th basketball win this past week. A feat that took many years to accomplish with hard work and dedication by her, her staff and her players! Well done Coach Wilson, you are a true leader and mentor. Lytle is fortunate to have your leadership.
The girls came out aggressive and playing great defense and were up at the half 25-19 even though we had committed way to many turnovers. This team at times wants to pass the ball way to much instead of shooting. I love their thinking behind it but at times they need to be more selfish in certain situations. End of the 3rd quarter we were still up 34-29, but heading in to the fourth quarter bad passes and missed free throws down the wire gave Hondo the win of 47-42. The level of competition we have played the last few weeks will defiantly pay off once we hit district and we are hanging with these bigger schools. This statement is so true “Don’t let a win get to your head or a loss to your heart.” I believe this loss will only make this team come back even stronger. Leading the offense once again Calyssa Sevier with 16 points and following her, Noelia Medina with 13 points. Mask picked up another charge which was a REAL one if you were at the game you understated that statement.
The girls beat Devine Friday night 59-46 the last time we beat Devine was in 2016 a very long time ago. The girls played great defense keeping our press going the entire game. We outscored them 24-16 in the 4th quarter to pull away. Calyssa Sevier had a season high 29 points and Cadee Martinez also had a season high of 16 points. Mask put up 7 points and took a charge. Medina had 3 points. Nagelin had 2 points as well as Hutton with 2 points and 5 steals. All 9 players saw the floor contributing to a great TEAM win. When we started the season I needed 5 wins to get my 100th and the girls have been counting down each game. This group is a one of a kind and I am so happy they helped me reach this accomplishment in my career. It was a great night to be a Pirate!! Thank you to everyone that came out to support the girls. Thank you to Coach Mason, Coach Tilley and Jones for all your hard work this far.
When making a COVID-19 schedule you schedule your max limit of games because you do not know how many games will be canceled. So after a big win we hit the road Saturday morning traveling with only 8 payers to face Randolph. Unfortunately we lost 55-42 we just did not look like the team we have become. It was 24-23 at the half them but the second half we just did not rotate well on defense and Randolph outscored us 31-18. This will be a game we will learn from and move on. One highlight of Saturday was Sevier hit a season high of 31 points for us. Martinez followed by 5 points. Medina and Mask both had 2 points. We have to have several people score in double figures to win games. The girls are now 5-5.
The Lady Pirates faced Uvalde last night and it was also Parents night. They will play Canyon Lake at home Friday night and Poth on Tuesday. Both games start with the JV at 5:00 pm.
