Louis Anton Poerner passed away at his home near Devine on March 23, 2017 at the age of 77 years.
Louis was born December 23, 1939 in Devine, the only child born to Hugo and Veronica Theis Poerner. His father passed away when Louis was only ten years old. His mother later met and married Arthur Conrad, who helped Veronica raise him.
In 1958 he graduated from Devine High School. Then he spent four years in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the Army, he returned home to Devine to tend to the family farm and ranch with his stepfather.
On September 21, 1963 he married Amy Lynn Mitchell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine. They were the parents of two daughters and were married for over fifty years at the time of Amy’s death in 2014.
Louis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amy Poerner, as well as his father, Hugo Poerner, mother, Veronica Poerner Conrad, and stepfather, Arthur Conrad.
Survivors include his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Scott Swilley of Dimmitt, Karen and Andy Oesterle of San Antonio and grandchildren, Katryna Swilley, Donovan Swilley, Hayden Oesterle and Nathan Oesterle.
Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Devine.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, CTRC or the charity of your choice.
